Transforming Our California Machine Shop for Faster Turnarounds
Since our founding in 1975, Moseys has grown significantly. Before introducing CNC milling services, our shop floor was lined with 50 manual mills and lathes.
Now our 33,000-square-foot facility houses a range of automated machinery, a transformation that began in 2002 with the addition of 34 automated pallets. While this setup required time and effort, this investment has significantly increased our productivity.
Continuous Production for Rapid Turnaround
Automation and robotics are at the heart of our shop floor operations. During Practical Machinist’s tour, Ian Sandusky instantly noticed two horizontal mills with pallet shuttles. This cutting-edge equipment perfectly exemplifies our efforts to enable continuous production with minimal human intervention.
By keeping these machines running all day and night, we maintain consistent, high-quality output. The automated process loads offsets and work coordinates for each part, while in-machine probing adjusts material placement with precision. This streamlined workflow results in tangible benefits for customers, boosting our output and accelerating delivery while keeping costs low.

For instance, to run our machines “lights out”, we needed solutions for every process that normally required human intervention. We had to overcome challenges like overnight chip management. The solution? Our team devised a simple but clever solution by repurposing cattle feeders rotating on turntables. The slow rotation ensures an even mound and prevents chip overflow.
