Imagine your most stringent, most demanding customer. This is your customer who expects perfection in every project, who sets the highest goals, who never accepts even the most reasonable excuse, and who scrutinizes every detail.
Now imagine a customer more demanding than that, and you’ll understand the goals we set for ourselves.
At Moseys Production Machinists, we use this hypothetical “ultimate customer” to set our targets, because we always aim to exceed even the most demanding real-world requirements. This approach allows us to constantly push ourselves as we search for opportunities to improve.
These goals might seem extreme, but our philosophy reflects a basic truth about excellence in every field: you don’t achieve extraordinary results by accepting ordinary standards. We don’t want to simply pat ourselves on the back—we want to use these metrics to deliver the best possible results to our customers.
Learn how we combine metrics and customer input to optimize our manufacturing operations and discover how we take rapid corrective action when we miss any target.
How Our Focus on Excellence Takes Us Beyond Industry Standards
Based on our hypothetical customer profile, we’ve set our quality target at 99.5% and our on-time delivery goal at 99%. We hit these annual targets frequently—but admittedly, we don’t hit them all the time, and that’s by design. We want stretch goals, not simply industry standards. For individuals and businesses alike, if you’re achieving your targets constantly, you’re never learning or improving at the rate you could.
In every metric we track at Moseys, we measure with the intent to find shortcomings and areas for improvement. If your measurements demonstrate total perfection, you’re either distorting the metrics or measuring the wrong thing—because no precision machine shop is perfect.
Customer Perception: How Your Feedback Drives Our Improvement
Internal metrics can never be enough, and that’s why we seek out customer input to ensure we have no blind spots. A business could have 100% on-time delivery and 100% quality and still have areas to improve that are not easily measured.
We call this somewhat qualitative measurement “customer perception.” In the signature line of every email we send, we include a survey that allows customers to tell us how we are performing. (If you’re our customer, we encourage you to take it now—just look at your most recent email from Moseys!)
Customer perception is just as critical to us as a metric like on-time delivery. It helps us understand where we excel and where we can improve, even when we’re meeting all numerical targets for our production machining services.
Inertia often masks dissatisfied customers, who might stay with a supplier for years out of habit before suddenly leaving, catching unprepared partners off guard. We proactively monitor satisfaction to prevent hidden issues from flying under the radar.
Resolving Issues With Rapid, Long-Term Corrective Action
Whenever we miss a target—whether in quality, delivery, customer satisfaction, or otherwise—we begin corrective action immediately. Our quality management team deploys analytical tools to identify root causes, not just the problems that appeared as symptoms. We are looking for permanent fixes rather than simply band-aids.
Once we pinpoint the root cause, we develop comprehensive solutions. Our process includes staff training and a 30-day effectiveness monitoring period. Once the process proves its long-term value, we add it to our operations manual and it becomes a permanent aspect of our industrial machining services.
Chasing Perfection in Precision CNC Machining
Excellence is our passion, and it drives everything we do in our Anaheim machine shop. Our team members embrace each day as an opportunity to set goals to innovate and improve, turning progress into a challenge rather than a box to be checked.
Perfection isn’t achievable—but the pursuit of perfection drives excellence. This pursuit defines all of our services, from our CNC milling service to our Swiss CNC machining and beyond.
